China to host the second Counter-Strike 2 Major of 2027

Organizer Perfect World confirmed it will hold the second CS2 Major of 2027 in China, leaving Europe off the Major calendar for the first time in the franchise's history.

Perfect World, the organizer tied to Valve in China, has confirmed it will host the second Counter-Strike 2 Major of 2027. The announcement came during the company's ninth-anniversary celebrations in the country, a milestone that coincides with the anniversary of the game's launch there.

According to the confirmation, the tournament is set to run from November 22 to December 12, 2027, with a total prize pool estimated at $1.25 million. The host city hasn't been officially revealed yet, but much of the competitive community expects Shanghai, which already hosted Perfect World's 2024 Major.

The news carries extra weight due to a historic detail: with China hosting the year's second Major and Buenos Aires, Argentina, hosting the first one (organized by FiReSPORTS), 2027 will be the first year in Counter-Strike history without a single Major held on European soil.

The move reinforces a trend Valve has been following in recent cycles: spreading the competitive scene's biggest events outside the traditional Europe-North America axis, bringing the pro circuit closer to markets that have grown rapidly, such as China and Latin America.

For Brazilian and Latin American fans, attention now turns to the Buenos Aires Major, the first event on the 2027 calendar and the closest geographically to the region, which should make it easier for fans to travel and for local outlets to cover the event.

China's confirmation also signals that Valve remains satisfied with the format used at the 2024 Shanghai Major, which drew a strong crowd and received praise for its infrastructure from participating teams, helping explain the choice to host in the country again in 2027.
